It's natural to focus on growth, progress, raise the bar and so on. It's almost an obsession this time of year. Resolution? That's cute, I give it a month.
We also like the quick fix, the instant gratification. Coupled with our bigger faster stronger culture, we end up with "can't this thing do the initial thing?" Take phones for example. Great, they have A.I. and all the entertainment possible, but when you REALLY need it, how often have you found no service? I don't care about how many G's, can this phone "do the thing?"
This is nothing new. A classic obsession in the 80s was with speed of delivery. Little Caesars was a key player (30 minutes or less) in this, seen in parody with "Home Alone." The result? Accidents, claims, lawsuits. The whole company needed to reboot. The result? Hot & Ready - get it yourself, we have one option. Then they SLOWLY added options making sure their 2.0 stayed as originally intended.
My challenge to you, fine reader? Let's go back to kinder, simpler, easier and enjoy slowing down and not finding satisfaction in being busy.
Of course some things need improvement, progress is inevitable, but things can get progressively more complicated, dramatic, faulty, and downright painful.
Our patience muscle needs developing too!
