The trend is boundaries.
In the spirit of "it works both ways" we seem to be constantly redefining our terms while trying to retain our humanity. In business, you may make an unconscious social error and blow an opportunity just because you pursed your lips. Couple that with the nature of the creative and it's enough to make you want to close down altogether.
It's VERY hard to be a creative in business. It forces 2 personalities into one. Running a business is hard enough - it requires the endurance to a level of stress that would kill many people. And considering that stress kills creativity, one would need Schwarzeneggerian power to survive and thrive!
I've shared many tips and tricks in previous blogs, but one that bears repeating is one that helps the creative balance their affable with their apathy. Assertive is not aggressive. Being specific, being clear, being tenacious and being true are all wonderful qualities. Decisiveness is not to be feared.
Ask yourself what truths can you agree with that would be ridiculous to deny - eating, sleeping, using the facilities, etc. Universal needs that no one (in their right mind) would argue exist.
Now extrapolate that to the truths that you represent with your skills and services - you CAN (render skill), you ARE needed for (client need) and you WILL provide (solution here). Practice rehearsing these truths and be prepared to support your statements!
And be nice all the way!
